This past Columbus Day weekend, I got out a couple of mornings to do some trout/salmon fishing on Lake Ontario. I went both times to the pier at Olcott, NY. What I love about fishing is the visual beauty around me that God unfolds. With the sun rising, a fair temperature in the mid 50's, and a slight southwesterly breeze, the morning could not get any better. Well, if I caught a fish, then it would be a different story altogether. Just "getting out" is all that really matters really. If I see someone else catch a fish, I am usually good with that.

It was around 9 AM on Monday, and I was smoking one of my favorite cigars, Kuba Kuba from Drew Estates' Acid line of stogies. I clicked  around on my iPod for some relaxing music. I hadn't heard Waterdeep in awhile. A little ironic at that point, but I listened to their bootleg of a Montreat show back in 2000. I am becoming a fan these days of jam bands, post rock, industrial/techno music, and smart indie rock. My tastes are pretty much all over the dial. On Monday, the jam band feeling was beckoning me. The funny thing is four or five years ago, jam bands did not appeal much to me. Maybe it has something to do with getting older or the musician in me resurfacing, but I now get the appeal of the jam band scene. It has a constant space in my ever expanding repertoire of digesting music.

To sum up this Columbus Day morning, I watched the sun rise, smoked a great cigar, listened to "All Along The Watchtower", and saw this guy and his son catch a 6 pound rainbow trout. Like some famous beer commercial, it doesn't get any better than this.
