This is infectious new punk rock infused with a slight hardcore edge from the UK. My Spoon carves out a little niche
for itself with "Love, Stories, and Lies". John O'Brien belts out the vocals with reckless abandon at times, and
for the typical unit of three players, this sounds just accessible enough to grace modern radio, yet keeping an indy vibe.
The song "Passing Him By" is an interesting conversation God is having with man:
"Just between you and me,
This wasn't the way I wanted it to be.
It's just that something went wrong,
and you would no longer play along.
You've bitten off more than you could chew.
Now somebody has to plead your case for you.
You know you can't make it on your own.
You're not better off.
You're not better off,
so pack up your bags 'n' come on home."
Standout tracks include "Excuses Don't Fly", "Grandma's Gone To...?", "Basically", and "Gordon
Bennett!" They even give a youthful edge to the worship cover that's been covered to death, "In The Secret".
Hopefully, My Spoon will cause a stir. They would be a great addition to the Cornerstone fest, if anyone is reading this
from JPUSA.
