Milton
& the Devils Party How
Wicked We’ve Become ©2007
Transit of Venus Philadelphia
based, Milton & the Devils Party, have created an independent release
reminiscent of the glory days of modern rock. Not to say, that their style is dated. Proudly worn influences of REM, Elvis
Costello, & Morrisey, among others, shine through the somewhat painful, yet
sarcastic lyrics, and the tasteful guitar heard throughout “How Wicked We’ve
Become.” This
needed a few listens
to stick for me. It
grew on
me.
Much of the music
scene
currently is flooded with angst filled screamo music with little to no melodic
flow. Thank
heaven (Did I say that
about the Devils Party?) these guys are not your typical songsmiths. Singer-songwriter-bassist Daniel
Robinson and guitarist Mark Graybill are English professors who know their
music. This
is a mature, old
school sound with a modern edge using melody and smart lyrics, not of an overt
spiritual leaning, but smart as only English professors proclaim. 7.5
