Luxury The Latest & The Greatest ©1997 Tooth & Nail
"Dance if you
must...if necessary use your hips." This is my plagiarism of a quote about preaching without words. Luxury is made up of four
guys, but Lee Bozeman is the focal point. They are currently on "hiatus in the background", but this record deserved a nod.
The vibe of the whole puts one in the mood for dancing under the silhouette of the moon on a clear night, someplace secluded
from the furious world. Experimental, independent, alternative, mood, lazy dance music is what I would coin this into. Music
like this deserves to breathe, outside the realm of the industry. Luxury would have been a good pairing with Havalina, and
even the softer side of Starflyer 59. Standout cuts include "From The Lion Within", "The Glory", and "Hell Or Highwater",
though the entire disc is fluid and solid. The lyrics of "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" are poetically distraught without
God, where the writer turns to in the end, another strong song: "Chaos above me, Neptune beneath I can't see the stars
that guide the way This night's just begun and dawn's so far away What will happen? No, life is never fair; it
owes me nothing Just when I had it all, I lost everything But somehow, God is good, and God is loving And just
when I lost it all, I gained everything I know why the caged bird sings It's for me; it's for me I know why the
caged bird sings It's for me, that I might see"
Family commitments and life itself have stuck their meat hooks
into Luxury. They were one of those bands from the wellspring of Atlanta, GA, with Gray Dot Records and Visions Of Gray Magazine
from the '90's, that have gone onto life...family, a job, different priorities. Here is hoping that Mr. Bozeman brings this
back to life and graces us at Cornerstone once more.
